Living the Wally Lifestyle Crude Awakening July 27, 2008 In 2007 I had the pleasure of working with Dan das Mann, Karen Cusolito, Jack Schroll and Jeremy Travis on the biggest fire art project in the history of Burning Man. It was called Crude Awakening. The project was monstrous. There was a 110 foot tall wooden oil derrick, there was eight huge 20' tall figurines surrounding the derrick, there was a beautiful fireworks show, there was four giant BLEVE cannons which held 1200 gallons of gasoline and other fuels and then there was the 1600 gallons of liquid propane which were discharged out of a 500 foot long steel pipeline. On September 2, 2007, the fuel and the derrick were burned in one 15 minute period of time. This is the video of the cannons and the pipeline. There is a high resolution option for the video.
